WINDSOR, VT
Ruth L. Silvester, 79, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 7 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH.
She was born June 23, 1936 in Woodstock, VT the daughter of Nelson O. and Marjorie (Putney) Roberts. She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1955. She married Howard J. Silvester in Windsor on October 10, 1959. Ruth was employed as a secretary at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor for a total of twenty nine years until her retirement in 1991. She was a founding member and board member of the Covered Bridge Credit Union in Windsor.
Ruth was fond of bowling, sewing, crafts and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Her husband Howard passed away in 2006.
She was also predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth Roberts in 1995 and Frank Roberts in 2014.
Survivors include one son, Jeffrey H. Silvester of Windsor, one sister, Kathy Harris and her husband, Kurt of Sanford, FL, four brothers, Richard Roberts of Claremont, NH, Edwin Roberts and his wife, Sally of Windsor, George Roberts and his wife, Mary Anne of West Windsor and Leslie Roberts and his wife, Louise of Springfield, VT, three sister-in-laws, Marion Roberts of Cornish, NH, Christine Silvester of Brownsville, VT and Marie Roberts Torres of Forest, VA and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, January 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Prayers will be offered at 6:00 PM by Pastor Earl Dionne, of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor.
