Ruth E.
Hewett
May 24, 1932 – September 10, 2018
Ruth Elizabeth Hewett, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
Ruth grew up in Patten, Maine, the only child of Manson and Anne Carpenter Brown. She graduated from Patten Academy and then attended New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. Ruth remained in Massachusetts with her husband Floyd to raise their three children holding various nursing positions. Ruth and Floyd moved to Windsor, Vermont in 1973. She worked at Mt Ascutney Hospital and became Director of the Skilled Nursing department where she worked until her retirement in 1999. After her retirement she was active in the community working as a Hospital volunteer, and on various church and community events. Unknown to many, Ruth continued her compassion for others as she spent several years caring for older friends in the capacity as a volunteer visiting nurse. She often stepped in to assist when others did not have family to help. Ruth recently was heard to say, "I have had a great life. I had loving parents, a career I loved and three wonderful children." She is survived by her children, Susan and Steven Lane of Connecticut, Katherine and Craig Beavers of North Carolina and Matthew and Suzanne Hewett of Massachusetts. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and spouses, Sarah Fant, Tyler and Beth Lane, Ross and Sarah Fant, Nathaniel Lane, Ethan Lane, Katelyn Hewett, Trevor Hewett, Autumn Hewett and one great grandchild, Hayden Guenot.
A memorial service will be held at the Old South Church in Windsor on Saturday, September 29th at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Ascutney Hospital at 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089
