Wilder, VT – Ruth S. Fifield, 95, died Monday July 29, 2019 at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation in Springfield, VT.

She was born June 5, 1924 in the Waterman Hill Section of Norwich, VT a daughter of Eli Clark and Cora Belle (Barstow) Sargent.  Ruth attended one room schools in the Root District and Pompanoosuc before enrolling in Thetford Academy.  She left school her junior year to marry Lee M. Fifield and joined the Women's Army Corps (WACs).  After returning from the war she finished her schooling and received her diploma.

The Fifields settled in Wilder where Ruth stayed home to care for the family.  She resided in the home until the rest of her life until recently when she has been a resident at Springfield Health and Rehab.

Ruth belonged to the Grange for many years and was a charter member of the Upper Valley Community Grange #581.  She was a long standing member of the United Methodist Church in Union Village, a life member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hartford Emblem Club #150 and was the last president of Maple Leaf Chapter #100 of the Women's Army Corps Assn of Vermont which disbanded in 2008.  She also spent many hours volunteering at the VA Medical Center in White River Jct.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lee in 2003 as well as a brother Ralph Hiram Sargent and sister Annie Belle S. Bradley Boutwell.

She leave her children Daniel Lee Fifield and wife Vanessa of Williamstown, VT, Myric David Fifield and wife Marcy of Hartland, VT, Barbara Joan McBeth and husband George of North Hartland, VT and Darryl Howard Fifield and wife Darcy of Cornish, NH; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11am in the Union Village Cemetery Friday, August 2
