Obituary

Enfield, NH – Ruth M. Coutermarsh, 81, died Friday March 18th at her daughter's home in Wilder in the presence of her family.

She was born December 25, 1929 in Greensboro Bend, VT a daughter of George M. and Ada R. (Hill) Esdon. After her mother's death at an early age she was raised by her father and step mother Florence (Parks) Esdon. She attended school in Greensboro Bend, graduated from Hazen Union Academy in Hardwick, VT and then from the Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing in Hanover, NH.

Ruth was married to Herbert E. Coutermarsh on May 31, 1952 in Greensboro Bend and they lived most of their married life in the Upper Valley. Mrs. Coutermarsh worked as a Registered Nurse, serving for more than 30 years at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital with the majority of that time in the Winifred Raven House.

Mrs. Coutermarsh was very active at church. While at the Canaan Assembly of God she was the leader of the Missionettes when that church's first Honor Stars were crowned. She was a founding member of the Lebanon Assembly of God, serving as a member of the board of trustees. She was involved in the Women's group, and taught in a ladies Bible study. She also taught Sunday School and Children's Church.

Ruth enjoyed canning, pickling and needlework, especially crocheting, knitting and tatting.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1985 and an infant son, Ronald, in 1955.

She is survived by two daughters Sheila Coutermarsh of Wilder, VT and Cheryl Coutermarsh of Enfield, NH; two sons Brian Coutermarsh and wife Joan of Bethany, CT and Gary Coutermarsh of Enfield, NH; three grandchildren Hannah, Nathan and Emily; a sister Lynette Esdon of Wilder; a brother Robert Esdon of Charlestown, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Lebanon Assembly of God Saturday April 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Joel McPherson officiating. Committal services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick, VT.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth M. Coutermarsh Memorial Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made payable to Lebanon Assembly of God, 45 Buckingham Place Lebanon, NH 03766. Please specify Ruth's memorial fund on memo line.
