Windsor, VT – Roy William Day, 92, long time resident of Lyme, NH, died peacefully early Thursday morning, March 16, 2023 at Cedar Hill in Windsor, VT.
Roy was born October 23, 1930 on the family farm in Lyme Center, NH. He attended school until he graduated from the eighth grade when he began working along side his father logging and tending to the farm. Roy met Mary Etta Hadlock and they soon fell in love and was married on Mary's nineteenth birthday, May 19, 1950. Together they built a home and raised a family in Lyme Center. They were happily married for over 70 years. Roy worked for a while at Trumble- Nelson in Hanover, NH before he began his long career at Uline Marnard Company where he worked most of his life.
Roy and Mary owned their own wood lot where he harvested timber for both is sawmill and for firewood.
Roy was a talented wood worker and spent hours in his wood working shop making furniture and other wood products. His greatest enjoyments came from spending time in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Even more important to Roy was spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.
Roy and Mary Etta lived in Lyme Center most of their lives until the couple and their beloved dachshund, Inga, went into assisted living in early 2019. Mary passed on January 5, 2021. Roy was also predeceased by brother, Jasper Day and sisters Ruth Bean and Arlene Day and a daughter, Regina.
Roy is survived by his daughters, Cindy Wilkesman and her husband, Laurence Butterfield of Weathersfield, VT, Brenda & Donn Cann, of Plainfield, NH, a granddaughter, Liza Welch and her husband, Kevin of Weathersfield, VT, two great grandsons, Alexander Valley and Austin Guibault, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In conjunction with the celebration of her birthday and what would have been their seventy-third wedding anniversary, a graveside service is planned for Roy and Mary, on May 19, at 3PM Highland Cemetery in Lyme, NH.
