Wilder, VT- Roy S. Black, 77, a lifetime resident of the Upper Valley, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, in Lebanon, NH. He was born on October 1, 1945, in Hanover, NH to Henry F. and Beatrice S. (Skinner) Black.
Roy enthusiastically participated and volunteered in many local organizations benefitting the community over the years. For many years, he served as a member of the Hartford Board of Civil Authority, and was a Hartford Justice of the Peace.
He was a member of the Hartford Historical Society, Hartford Elks Lodge, Orleans County Historical Society, there Lions Club and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
His helpful spirit also showed through in his career as a Travel Information Representative for the Vermont Travel and Tourism department, maintaining and welcoming visitors at the Hartford I-91 rest area.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann Black, of Wilder; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Nye of Hartford, three grandchildren, Jase (7), Lydia (4) and Wyatt (7 months); his older brother, Harry A. Black and sister-in-law, Leslie Black, of White River Jct., two nephews, Henry Black of Bend, OR, and Benjamin Black of Mount Holly, VT. Roy will be missed so much by so many.
A Celebration of Roy's Life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, White River Jct. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Pauls Church.
