Enfield, NH – Ronald Reading, 89, of Enfield, NH died peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born in Chicago, IL on October 15, 1933, to Edward C. and Anna (Von Krone) Reading, where he spent his childhood and early adulthood. After postponing his wedding to serve in the US Army in Korea, he returned home and married the love of his life, Mary Nolan, on September 28, 1958. Ron's successful career in sales took the young family from Chicago to Michigan and Ohio, where the Reading backyards became the neighborhood playgrounds. Ron moved the family to Rockville Centre, NY when he was offered a position as regional manager for Durkee Foods. During his children's formative years, Ron prioritized his family, declining numerous career opportunities to ensure a stable home and community.

After retiring, Ron and Mary moved to Mascoma Lake, the 'best place on earth'. Affable and loving, he enjoyed hosting family and friends from near and far. He cherished sharing his love of the lake with his grandchildren, especially tubing, knee boarding, bird watching, and boat trips to the Baited Hook for ice cream. For several years, Ron volunteered at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He organized many large family reunions and annual birthday celebrations. While he loved to be home, he traveled enthusiastically, visiting 54 countries during his lifetime. Funny, engaging, and full of life, he made friends wherever he went.

Ron is survived by his six children and their spouses: Bob and Valerie, Eileen and Julie, Rich and Lauren, Beth and Pat, Mary and Mike, and Bill and Donna; one brother, Walter J. Reading; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and other extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary N. Reading; and a brother, Edward J. Reading.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Our Lady of La Salette Chapel in Enfield with a reception to follow. A graveside committal service will be held at 1pm on Friday, July 28, 2023 in the Lakeview Cemetery in Enfield, NH, with military honors.
