Bellows Falls, Vermont – Ronald "Curley" Leslie Chase, 95, died Sunday, July 19 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct., VT He was born September 15, 1924 in Newport, VT the son of Moses S. and Rena (Adams) Chase. When he was four this family moved to North Pomfret where he grew up. Curley graduated from Woodstock High School in (year). He worked for a short time in Connecticut until his eighteenth birthday when he enlisted in the US Army. He served from 1943 until 1945 when he was seriously wounded. He was sent home and did most of his recovery in Vermont with is parents. When he had recovered, he moved to Connecticut where his brothers had found good employment. With help from the GI Bill. He studied at the New England Culinary School and upon completion went to work for a short time in the restaurant business. He opened his own restaurant in Meriden CT for a few years before he decided to change his career. Curley worked for a few years in construction until he formed his own Concrete business. He owned and operated Chase Concrete for the next twenty years. On July 21, 1967, he married Ethelyn "Effie" H. Jamieson. They made their home in Connecticut until they moved to Bellows Falls, VT in 1978 just prior to him selling his concrete company. Curley retired three different times. First when he sold this company, the second after he had worked for a few concrete contractors in Vermont and then finally in 1987. During his time in Vermont, Curley, enjoyed and filled his time by tending to his gentleman's farm where he raised pigs, rabbits, and dairy goats. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ken Chase, Norman Chase and Dean Chase, sister, Florence Rameor, also a son, Leslie Chase and son-in-law, Mike Nauceder.
He is survived by sons, Kevin Chase and his wife, Rennie of Claremont, NH, daughters, Joyce Wood of Plymouth, CT, Julie Chase Nauceder of Bellows Falls, VT, step children, Gary White of Gilford, NH, Thomas Chase of West Minister, and several other step children; six grandchildren, many great grandchildren, two brothers, Lysle "Herbie" Chase and his wife Elaine of North Pomfret, VT, Howard "Chick" Chase and his wife Katrina of North Pomfret, VT, three sisters, Barbara Gilbert both of North Pomfret, VT, Ethelyn Wardwell of New London, Connecticut , Kathleen Chase of Sarasota, FL and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday July 25, 2020 at 11AM at his brother's home on Limey Lane in North Pomfret, VT. If plan on attending and are willing, please bring a dish to share. Hotdogs, hamburgers and cold meat sandwiches will be furnished. Also please bring a chair.
