Obituary

Reading, Vermont – Ronald M. Griffith, 78, of Reading, VT died on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at his beloved home. He was born in Springfield, VT on April 11, 1943, to Warren E. and Virginia J. (Wilkins) Griffith and was a lifelong Vermonter. He married Esther M. Kangas on April 15, 1961, and when the woods and hills of the 35-acre property that he spent his boyhood exploring went up for sale, they bought it and made their home there for many years. He called it his favorite place in the world and enjoyed spending fall days hunting deer with his cousin and uncle, swimming in the pond, working in the vegetable garden, and snowmobiling in the winter. He loved teaching his granddaughter to drive in the golfcart and his great granddaughter to drive on the four-wheeler through the trails near their home. He and Esther also enjoyed spending time in Florida, exchanging the snow for sun and beach for a portion of eighteen winters.

Ron enjoyed taking an active role in the community and meeting new people and learning about their lives. He was a member of the Reading Volunteer Fire Department and the Windsor Elks Lodge and volunteered frequently at their BBQ fundraisers. He and a friend, Fred Rising, had a wonderful business partnership for many years creating woodworking patterns Vermont Pattern Company.

His family would like to extend their thanks to the FAST Squad and the staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for their excellent care.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Esther M. Griffith of Reading; two children, Marc E. Griffith of Perkinsville, VT and Michele E. Griffith of Springfield, VT; one granddaughter, Natalie E. Emery; one great granddaughter, Alexa V. Jackson; other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held late at his favorite place, the deck on their farm in Reading.  Ron loved dogs, and all dogs loved him, so in his memory, please make donations to the Springfield, VT Humane Society.  Arrangements are in the care of Knight Funeral Home, Windsor, VT and online condolences to the family are appreciated at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
