White River Junction, VT.  Ronald F Audette Sr, 81, died at home Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with his family by his side following a long battle with cancer.

Ron was born August 21, 1943, in Winooski, Vt, where he grew up and graduated from Winooski High School.  Ron immediately joined the Army in 1960, served in Vietnam 1967-1968, and received The Army Commendation Medal. Upon his Honorable discharge in 1970 at rank of sergeant, Ron went to work as a police officer in Essex Jct., VT. From 1971 to 1978. He was married to Judy (Robertson) Audette and moved from Winooski to Georgia, VT where they raised their three children. Ron served the community for several years as a police officer until he was injured in the line of duty and could no longer work.

He filled his time volunteering and was an active member of the Georgia, VT Lions Club. Upon the passing of his wife in 1990, Ron moved to Florida and was very active in the Local VFW post and American Legion.  He served several years as post commander and helped his post raise funds and built a brand-new post for the Veterans.

While in Florida, Ron also enjoyed woodworking with his friends Harold & Angela Barrett, spending a lot of time making many things including lawn ornaments which he would sell at flea markets and craft fairs.

In 2014, Ron moved back to Vermont with his son Kevin and purchased a home in White River Junction.  Between visits to the local VA hospital, he very much enjoyed plowing his ¼ mile long driveway and mowing the fields on his Kubota.

Ron is preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy, son Ronald Jr., Brother Edward, mother Yvonne (Allard) and father Edward Audette, Sr.

He is survived by a son, Kevin of White River Junction, and daughter Julie of Youngsville, NC.   Four Grandchildren Meghan, Kyle, Jason and Ronald III.  Seven great-grandchildren Daemon, Lalani, Blake, Jason Jr, Kaiden, Madison, and Ronald IV.  Also many Nieces and Nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester, VT at 11am on Monday, September 30th, 2024.
