ROLAND C BAKER
Cornish, NH- Roland C Baker, 86, of Cornish, NH died Wednesday October 19 at Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, VT.
He was born February 26, 1925 in Windsor, VT, the son of George and Grace (Barrows) Baker. Roland attended Windsor High School leaving early to enlist in the Navy and serve his country during WWII. In 1946 he was honorably discharged from the military and returned home to Windsor. On January 18, 1947, Roland married Lois G Scales in Windsor. The two lived their entire married life in Cornish, NH. In 2007 Roland received his diploma from Windsor High School.
Roland worked as a mechanic at the Lebanon airport, Gibson Ford Garage in Windsor, Windsor Automotive, and most recently for Joy Manufacturing in Claremont until his retirement in 1985. He also worked for a time as a logger in Cornish, NH. He was especially fond of his ten years of service at Mt Ascutney Ski Area as mountain manager, where a majority of his family worked and played during the winter.
He was a member of the Plainfield Baptist Church, the Plainfield Rifle Club, and a life member of the American Legion Post #25 in Windsor. In his free time Roland enjoyed working on cars and camping.
He is predeceased by his wife Lois. Roland is survived by three sons, Lee R Baker and his wife Sandra of Cornish, NH, Peter A Baker and his wife Stephanie of Claremont, NH and Scott S Baker and his wife Michelle of Cornish, NH, four grandchildren, Dustin I Baker of Portland MI, Jaime Baker Richardson and her husband Jonathan of Weathersfield, VT, Kelly A Baker of Cornish, NH, and Karlie M. Baker of Cornish, NH.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT on Tuesday October 25 from Noon to 2PM burial will follow in the Chase Cemetery in Cornish, NH at 2:30PM. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT has been entrusted with arrangements.
