Roger Murray

Roger Murray, 88, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at his home in Wilder.
Roger was born April 28, 1922 in Chester, VT a son of John and Sabra E. (Ashley) Murray. Roger grew up and attended school in Chester and graduated from Chester High School in 1940. He served in the US Army during WWII. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on D-Day as a member of the Joint Assault Signal Company. After the troops advanced and the beach was secured, they returned to the States and were eventually sent to the Pacific.
He married Regina Amsden on October 1, 1943 in Chester. They lived together in Claremont, NH where he worked for Goddard Bakery for twenty four years until 1965. They then moved to Lebanon, NH where he worked for Ward Baking Co. until 1972, when they moved to Wilder where he worked at Billings Dairy retiring in 1987.
Roger was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Lebanon, NH, Hiram Lodge #9 F&AM, receiving his fifty year pin in 2003, the Woodman Chapter#260 OES both in Claremont, a life member of Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #2571 and The American Legion Post #26 both in White River Junction. After retiring he volunteered at the VA Hospital in White River Jct. for many years.
Roger enjoyed traveling and camping with his family, making two trips across the country as well as trips to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Alabama, and Florida.
He is predeceased by four brothers, Leon Murray, Kenneth Murray, Harold Murray, and Edwin Murray; four sisters, Vivian Spaulding, Dorothy Larkham, Elizabeth Lord, and Zada Lovell; and two grandchildren Jason Dean and Kathryne Murray.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Regina Murray of Wilder; a son, Roger Wayne Murray of Plattsburgh, NY; three daughters Lillian French of Epsom, NH, Beverly Dean of Portsmouth, NH and Dona Murray of Wilder, NH, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Saturday, April 30 from 10-11AM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT. A funeral service will follow at 11AM at the funeral home; interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont.
