HARTLAND, VT
Roger J. Crosby, 87, a proud, lifelong resident of Hartland, passed away Saturday morning, October 4 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.
He was born February 23, 1927 in Hartland; the son of Maxwell D. and Marion H. (Barney) Crosby. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1945. He was a veteran of the US Army serving with the Army Honor Guard during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Hartland. He married Barbara Osgood in Windsor in 1958 and they were later divorced.
Mr. Crosby was employed as manager of the former S & H Green Stamp Store in Windsor and later worked as a salesman for the White River Paper Company. He most recently had owned and operated the Woodstock Motel in Woodstock for several years until his retirement in 2000. Roger was a very social person and enjoyed conversing with others.
He was an avid skier and golfer. He enjoyed baseball and travelling. He was a member of the Hartland American Legion Post.
He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Cathleen Gaynor.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Harris of Claremont, NH and Susan Crosby-McKenna of Northboro and Rockport, MA, two grandchildren, Gregory Harris of Golden, CO and Lauren A. McKenna of Northboro, MA, two nieces, Nancy Gaynor of West Windsor and Sally Knecht of Lancaster, NH; along with two great nieces, Shannon Knecht and Baillie Knecht, both of Lancaster, NH.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 12 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lucia Jackson, Pastor of the Hartland First Congregational Church, officiating. Committal services with military honors will follow in the Hartland Village Cemetery in Hartland.
