Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Rodney N. Tardie, 92, died Saturday May 10th at his home in Wilder.

He was born June 29, 1921 in Wilder, VT a son of Napoleon "Paul" and Lizzie Belle (Nott) Tardie. Rodney graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1940 before serving in the US Army during World War II. After the war he began his career as a mechanic, first for himself in Wilder, then at Clifford's Garage in West Hartford, later at Gerrish Motors in Woodstock where he worked for eighteen years, and finally at the Carriage House in Windsor before retiring.

He was married to Mary Longley of Pomfret, VT on September 25, 1958. They lived in Wilder, VT for several years before moving to Highland Avenue in White River Jct. where they made their home together for over fifty years. Mary died June 17, 2012.

Rodney was a Master Mechanic and was passionate about automobiles of any era. After his retirement, he could often be found working on cars and other projects with his son & grandson at their garage in Wilder. In earlier years, Rodney and his wife were well known for their huge vegetable garden and particularly for selling bushels of potatoes to friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Sheffield and her husband Douglas of West Valley City, UT; a son Adrian Tardie and his wife Paula of Wilder, VT, a stepson Vernon Clifford and his wife Tina of Pomfret, VT; grandchildren Tadd Tardie, Chris and Charlie Johnson, Nathan and Shane Clifford and Amber Moore; several great grandchildren; a brother Henry Tardie of Wilder and several nieces and nephews.

Rodney was predeceased by a grandson Oak Clifford.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Wednesday May 21st from 6-8pm. with a funeral service Thursday May 22nd at 11am, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the West Lebanon Cemetery.
