Claremont, NH – Rodney H. Smith, 82, died Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH.

Rod was born June 23, 1943, in Hiram, ME, a son of Herbert and Silvia (Mills) Smith. He attended South Paris High School and later worked for Paris Manufacturing in South Paris, ME. In 1968, he moved to Claremont, where he logged for Wayne Simmeneau for a time before working at area woolen mills.

Rod later moved to Lebanon, NH, where he worked for the Lebanon Cemetery Department and later at the Lebanon Landfill. He also worked as a dishwasher at Lui Lui's in West Lebanon and later at Price Chopper, retiring in 2006.

Rod enjoyed spending time in nature hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed stitching plastic canvas, creating decorative tissue box covers and picture frames. Rod was an avid NASCAR fan his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.

Rod is preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Smith and Kieth Smith; and a sister Faye McDonald.

He is survived by two daughters, Tanya Smith (Tom Osgood) of Newport, NH, and Tammy Hoisington of Vermont; a son, Todd Smith of Claremont; and three grandsons Johnny Branch, Jr., August Branch, and Thomas Smith.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in the Porter Village Cemetery in Porter, ME. Knight Funeral Home has assisted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
