Obituary

Robin Lord Eaton passed away peacefully Thursday morning, August 19, 2021, in White River Junction, VT, at the family home of her dear caregivers, Arnalyn and Michael Asis. Robin was born June 7, 1929 in Boston to Durant Ferson Ladd and Naomie Ladd Smith. She was predeceased by her sister, June Ladd Visser.

Robin grew up in Weston MA, West Hartford CT, and Springfield MA. She attended Classical High School, where she enjoyed her passions for singing and acting in Glee Club and The Thespians. Robin attended Emerson College, and subsequently enjoyed a theater career at the Boston Tributary Theatre, the "Trib", and in summer stock companies, St. Michael's Playhouse in Vermont and Arundel Light Opera in Kennebunk. She had parts in well over 50 plays. One noteworthy role was in the production of Dracula at St Michael's Playhouse, where she fell victim to Bela Lugosi with a bite on her neck. Favorite lead roles at the Tributary Theatre were in productions of "St. Joan," "Romeo & Juliet," and "Cyrano De Bergerac."

For sixteen years on WHDH radio, she was "Story Lady Robin" for the Children's Playhouse Story Hour. Broadcast Sunday mornings, the Story Lady shared classic fairy tales that she adapted and augmented with music, singing, and voicing of the characters. From 1951 to 1967, Boston area children enjoyed listening to her stories and hearing their names on the radio with "Happy Birthday" greetings. Later in 1978-1979 she adapted, directed, and acted as narrator for the Boston Children's Theatre production of "Rumpelstiltskin," performed for children's groups and schools throughout the Greater Boston area.

Robin met her first husband, Donald S. Lord, on a double date in Hingham where Don was the gentleman half of the other couple. Robin and Don soon themselves became a couple and were married in March 20, 1954.  They eventually settled in Cohasset, MA where they raised their children, William (Bill) born in 1955, and Donna (Dee Roberts) born in 1957. Robin continued her radio program when the children were young and later was involved in Cohasset Dramatic Club performances, in local volunteering, and at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Don passed away in 1985 after a long illness.

Robin became reacquainted with longtime town resident, Louis F. Eaton, Jr., who also served as her attorney when she downsized her home in 1990. Perhaps portending their later reunion, they both appeared in Cohasset Dramatic Club's 1950 production of "My Sister Eileen." They were married in 1994 and continued life in Cohasset, enjoying retirement and family and travelling together.

Robin loved life in Cohasset. She loved her church, carillon concerts on the Common, attending Boston theater and Boston Symphony Orchestra performances, and traveling far afield with Lou- seeing the UK, Italy, and Australia. She loved dipping her feet in the water at Sandy Beach, and feeling the wind in her hair while skippering out past Bassing's Beach in the family dingy with Labrador "Daniel" aboard. There, she would enjoy a picnic on the small island outcropping "Robin's Rock," aptly named by her then young family.

Robin was much loved by her family and friends. Her beautiful voice, both singing and speaking, her endearing smile, and her love will be dearly missed by daughter Dee, son Bill and wife Nan, stepdaughters Sunny and Deborah, and granddaughters Rebecca and Catherine and husband Jared.

Memorial services will be held at a future date at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Condolences may be expressed to Robin's family in the online guestbook at www.KnightFuneralHomes.com or in writing to:
