Roberta W. Kucer, a longtime resident of Norwich, VT died peacefully at home early Wednesday morning, May 4, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Roberta was born on March 11, 1938 in New York City, NY and grew up in Scarsdale, NY. A graduate of Vassar College and Columbia University, Roberta was an extraordinary teacher, admired by her colleagues and adored by her students. She taught at Orford High School in Orford, NH for many years, and later at Crossroads Academy in Lyme, NH. She received the University of Chicago Excellence in High School Teaching Award, was selected as a semi-finalist for New Hampshire Teacher of the Year and was recognized by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council for her outstanding service as an educational advisor. Roberta will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her passion for teaching, and for her great strength of character and intelligence. Roberta is survived by her husband John, her children Anton Kucer of Redmond, WA, Peter Kucer of Cromwell, CT, and Emily LaPointe of Boston, MA. She also leaves a son-in-law Christian LaPointe, daughter-in-law Annie Sohn, and her beloved Golden Retriever Zlatka. A celebration of Roberta's life will take place May 6 at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT with calling hours from 6pm - 8pm. A funeral mass will be held at 2pm, May 7 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bradford, VT followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Norwich, VT. All are welcome to attend.
