Obituary

Wilder, VT – Robert Taylor, 78, died at his home in Wilder, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday evening October 10, 2012.

He was born January 28, 1934 in Bennington, VT a son of Charles and Elizabeth (Gilmore) Taylor. Bob spent most of his childhood in Manchester, VT, graduating from Burr & Burton Academy where he was a three sport athlete. He also graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, ME and later in life earned his Master's in Education from the University of Southern Maine in Portland.

Mr. Taylor taught in Lewiston for a year before starting at Hartford High School in 1958. While at Hartford he fell in love with Patricia Horvath, who was also teaching at Hartford. They were married in 1961 in Proctor, VT and have spent over fifty years together. True to his love of sports, upon moving to Hartford, Bob began coaching and later served as Athletic Director for thirty seven years. He retired from teaching in 1998 after forty two years of service.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly vacationing. He had fond memories of time spent with his family and their close friends Bob and Beth Potter and their sons Andy and Steven, visiting Cape Cod and Kiawah Island in South Carolina. Robert was an avid fan of sports of all types, especially playing golf. Since retiring the Taylors have spent time each winter in New Symrna, FL.

Mr. Taylor leaves his wife, Pat Taylor, of Wilder; a daughter Dawn Taylor of Portland, ME; a sister Katherine Doubleday of Jaffrey, NH; a sister-in-law Linda Taylor of Tennessee as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Norman Taylor in 2007.

Visiting hours will be held Monday October 15th from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday October 16th at 11AM at St. Anthony's Church also in White River Jct. with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
