IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Grimson
Smith
January 21, 1968 – February 8, 2021
West Lebanon, NH - Robert Grimson Smith, 53, died on February 8, 2021.
Rob was the youngest of four children born to Herbert and Maryrose (Mallon) Smith in Hanover N.H. on January 21, 1968.
He grew up in White River Junction and attended Hartford schools where he played baseball and hockey. In his youth, Rob spent countless hours hunting, fishing and exploring the fields and pastures with his neighborhood friends.
He excelled at motocross and won many trophies at the track in Canaan and other New England tracks with his parents and most of his family there cheering him on. It was an exciting and fun time for the family.
Rob endured a great deal of loss as a child, when he was 12 years old his beloved brother Michael passed away. Two years later, he lost his mother, with whom he was closer than anyone in the world. Rob travelled the country for some time after these tragedies.
When Rob returned to the Upper Valley he worked many years paving for Nelson Duncan. He went on to work at The Fort restaurant and most recently was working at Denny's where he had been temporarily employed while he waited to return to his job at The Hanover Inn after being furloughed due to Covid.
Rob's gentle, non-judgmental nature made him liked by most who met him and loved by those who knew him best.
He leaves his life partner Kerry St. Lawrence, his brother Stephen Smith, his sister Kimberly Kelton, his brother in law Bodie Kelton and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves loved ones Mooneen and Richard Parkinson of Concord N.H.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael and an infant daughter.
His family will have a private graveside service in the spring where Rob will join his parents and brother.
In Rob's memory be kind to strangers, you never know the hardships they may have been through on their journey.
Condolences to Rob's family may be made in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com.
