Obituary

White River Jct., VT - Robert Roger Slayton, 70, died Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Lebanon Center Genesis in Lebanon, NH.

He was born on November 28, 1951 in Hardwick, VT, a son of Roger and Estella (Hull) Slayton. Bob grew up in Greensboro and Hardwick, graduating from Hardwick Academy. He then served as an X-Ray technician with the US Army in Panama during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home and worked in the Central Vermont area. He met and fell in love with Kathryn Colburn, and they were married in 1974. Shortly after, they moved to White River Jct. They started a family and have lived there since. Upon moving to White River Jct., Bob began his career at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. While working there he earned his bachelor's degree in nursing from Norwich University. Bob retired from the VA after forty- two years of service in 2014. He then became employed at the White River CO-OP, a job in which he enjoyed immensely.

As a true Vermonter, Bob enjoyed the Vermont outdoors including hunting, fishing, cutting and splitting wood by hand, time on his tractor, and especially time at his camp in Woodbury. Most of all, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a very devoted husband and father. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren very much. Bob was also a member of the Hartford Elks Lodge until they closed.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathryn, of White River Jct., and his daughter, Michelle Slayton Noury and his grandchildren Brandon, Michael, and Madison all of Barre; a brother, Edward Slayton of Hardwick and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. from 6-8PM on Friday, April 22nd. A funeral service will be held at Knight Funeral Home on Saturday, April 23rd at 11AM. If possible, the wearing of masks would be appreciated at both services.
