ROBERT A. SIMONDS
ASCUTNEY, VT
Robert A. Simonds, 78, a resident of Ascutney, passed away Thursday evening, June 20, at his home in Ascutney.
He was born January 15, 1935 in Hartland, VT the son of Ivan W. and Gladys (Huntington) Simonds. He attended schools in Hartland and Cornish. He married Carol DeGowin in Windsor on August 20, 1967 and they were later divorced in May of 1987. Mr. Simonds owned and operated Simonds Logging in Ascutney for several years. He also worked with his brother operating Simonds and Sons Rubbish Removal in Windsor. He later drove truck for Hodgdon Salvage in Ascutney, and for Tri State Timber in Hartland. He owned five tractor trailers until 2001. He most recently drove truck for Jewel Transportation in Claremont until his retirement in 2010.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Robert Simonds in 1979, three brothers, George Simonds, Frank Simonds and Ivan Simonds, Sr., and one sister, Grace Barrows.
Survivors include one son, James K. Simonds and his fiancée, Tonya of Granville, NY, two daughters, Candice Stuart and her husband, Matt of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Gladys Simonds of Claremont, NH, four grandchildren, Matthew Stuart, Ashley Stuart, Hannah Simonds and James Simonds, one brother, Glendon Simonds of Unity, NH, four sisters, Linda Pichette of Rochester, NH, Lillian Hodgdon of Cornish, NH, Ruth Barrows of Ludlow, VT and Alice Burnham of Alstead, NH, his former wife, Carol Stocker of Jacksonville, FL, several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday morning, July 20, at 11AM in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor, VT. His son Jim will give his dad a final ride in a tractor trailer leaving his house at 10:30AM and meeting at the cemetery at 11AM. Following the cemetery service a memorial pig roast will be held at Bob's home in Ascutney, VT.
