Townsend, MA – Robert H. Murphy, 64, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Littleton, MA. Bob was born on August 13, 1960, in Claremont, NH to parents Mahlon Oliver and Zada Mae (Boufford) Murphy. He was the second oldest child in the family and spent his childhood in Hartland, VT. He married Susan E. Burgess in 1984, and their family became complete when they welcomed their daughter, Megan Rene. The family loved their home overlooking a pond in White River Junction. He adored time with his family, often hiking, camping, and fishing. The family was especially close and few years after Susan's death Bob moved to Massachusetts in 2021 to help his sister care for their aging mother.

During his time in the Upper Valley he worked in the kitchens at numerous restaurants, and he continued this career in Massachusetts, most recently at the Groton Forge and Vine. He enjoyed the many cherished friendships forged through the hard work behind the scenes.

He is survived by his daughter Megan Rene Murphy and fiancé Steve Sawyer of White River Junction, VT; his mother Zada Mae Murphy of Townsend, MA; four siblings Rosemarie Murphy Brooks of Townsend, MA, James Murphy and wife Mariene of Hartford, VT, Michael Murphy of Hartford, VT, and Peggy Murphy of Canaan, NH; nieces and nephews Christopher, Patrick, Shawn (Samantha), Kaitalyn (Joseph), Jeffrey, Daniel, Michael (Lisa), Samantha, Brandon, and Pashents (Dylan); great nieces and nephews Nevaeh, Addison, Tessa, Justin, Mikey, James, and Angel Marie; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and wife Susan E. Murphy.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 6 until 8 pm at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT. A funeral will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 7, at 11am followed by burial in the Hartland Cemetery.
