BENNINGTON, VT- Robert W. McDonald, 88, died at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT.
He was born December 23, 1922, in Barre, VT, the son of Robert H. and Helen (Slora) McDonald. During WWII, Robert served his country in the US Army, after which he married Sylvia J. Knight. Robert worked for the US Postal service for several years in VT. When his wife contracted rheumatic fever, they moved to Los Angeles, CA where she would benefit from the warmer climate. In Los Angeles, Robert attended school to receive training in computers. In 1968, Robert returned to Vermont, where he worked as Computer Programmer for the State of Vermont.
He was an avid fisherman, who loved spending time fishing with friends and family. He especially loved telling a good fishing story.
Robert is predeceased by his wife Sylvia, a sister Marilyn and a son Allen McDonald.
He leaves behind a son, Robert H. McDonald II of Columbia, SC, and two daughters, Betty Lee Blackmon of Visalia, CA and Rosemary Phelps of Montpelier, VT.
A graveside memorial service will be held for Robert on Wednesday July 13 at 10:00AM in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, VT.
