Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert "Bob" H. Mattson, 76, died unexpectedly at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

Bob was born September 6, 1947, in Burlington, VT, the only child of Harold V. and Ethel Mae (Booska) Mattson. He grew up in the Burlington area and graduated from Winooski High School. He attended Champlain College before enlisting in the US Army. Following his discharge, he returned home to care for his ill mother.

Bob worked as a sales engineer for Blodgett's Supply, he was married, and they made their home in Hartland, VT. Bob was a police officer in Windsor, VT before he began his long and successful career as a Windsor County Deputy Sheriff, retiring in 2009. During the fall of 1984 he was married to the love of his life a young lady from Windsor, VT, Susan "Sue" Kenyon. Their honeymoon, was one of Bob's and Sue's fondest memories, taking the month of September off, traveling with their motorhome across the Trans Canadian Highway and then making a circle to cover the lower U.S States. A short time after their return they bought their home in Hartford, VT where they have resided ever since. Through all the years, whether it was traveling, eating out, discovering new places to eat, hunting, driving around in their "fast cars" Bob and Sue were inseparable. He was especially proud of his HEMI Ram Truck and Dodge Challenger SRT8.

Bob loved life, all it had to offer and was able to live life to its fullest, even after health reasons beyond his control made it difficult, always having a friendly, jovial, and giving nature.

Bob loved listening to music and singing songs with his wife, enjoying her homemade meals and baked goods. In his earlier years Bob loved hunting, and traveling with his wife. In his later years, he still was able to enjoy listening to NASCAR, Patriots Football, the Boston Red Sox, and his audio books. Bob loved his family and his dog "Sunny." One of his most joyful memories was when he was able to hold his granddaughter, Jailyn, moments after she was born.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Susan "Sue" Mattson of Hartford, VT, his son, Robert J. "BJ" Mattson of Hartland, VT, his granddaughter, Jailyn Winter Mattson of Hartland, VT, his beloved dog "Sunny" who never left his side. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Thomas Kenyon, as well as three very special cousins, Judy Hella, Janet Newton and Janice Tremblay.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 21, 2PM to 4PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. Bob's funeral service will be held at 4PM immediately following the calling hours.

A graveside committal service will be held at 1pm on Friday, May 10th, 2024 in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, VT.
