Celebration of Life
Hartford, VT — Robert Earl Johnson, Jr., 76, died Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH, following a brief illness.
Bob was born November 9, 1949, in Lebanon, NH, the son of Robert and Grace (Haughton) Johnson. During his early years, his family lived in Vershire and Strafford before settling in Norwich, where he grew up. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1966.
Bob worked a variety of jobs before beginning his career as an auto mechanic at Hartford Motors, where he spent most of his working years. He also worked for a time at the Toy Factory woodshop in Middlebury, VT, and as an aide at the Brandon Training School.
On August 16, 1974, Bob married Mildred Irene Bowen. They made their home in Strafford, where they lived until 2002, when they moved to Hartford Village.
He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Hartford Rod and Gun Club.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Johnson; a son, Todd Tucker; and a daughter, Tammy Tucker.
He is survived by a son, Robert E. Johnson III and his wife Robin of Newport, ME; a daughter, Tracey Johnson and her husband Mark Wilson of Groton, VT; two grandchildren, Meaghean Rollins and her husband, Josh, and Melina Cole and her husband, Justin; nine great-grandchildren: Myleigh, Chase, Matthew, Karsyn, Jonathyn, Kamiyah, Bradley, and Nathyn; his mother, Grace Johnson of Lebanon, NH; a brother, Timothy Johnson of White River Junction, VT; and a sister, Donna Rich and her husband Pearly of Canaan, NH.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Groton Town Hall in Groton, VT starting at 12pm.
