Hartland, VT – Robert J. White, 92, died Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.
He was born on September 25, 1934, in Windsor, VT a son of Millard T. and Marion (Lobdell) White. Bob attended school in Hartland until he went to work at his father’s sawmill. He lived his entire life in Hartland with the exception of the time spent serving in the US Army, where he learned his lifelong trade as a heavy equipment mechanic. Bob worked at Miller Ready-Mix as a mechanic for over thirty years, retiring in 1996.
Bob was hardworking and always willing to help anyone who needed it. He will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity, and candor. He provided nice homes for his mother following the passing of his father, the last three of which he was heavily involved in the construction and finish work. He did so out of love and appreciation which was reciprocated.
When not at work, Bob was always finding ways to occupy his time. Whether it was woodworking, assisting family members with projects or maintaining his immaculate yard, he enjoyed being busy.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Thomas and Philip White and four sisters Marion “Jean” Rugg (Bob), Mary Davis (Lawrence), Virginia Ide, and Nancy Dow (Vincent.)
He leaves two brothers, Richard White (Edith) and Paul White (Janie) both of Hartland, a sister-in-law Anne White, and brother-in-law James Ide, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in the Hartland Village Cemetery on Friday, October 30th at 1PM. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow in the Hartland Congregational Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department at PO Box 341, Hartland, VT 05048. Condolences to Bob’s family may be made in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
