Ascutney, VT – Robert Richard Gagner, 70, died unexpectedly on Monday September 23, 2019 at home in Ascutney, VT.

He was born August 2, 1949 in West Stewartstown, NH a son of Armand and Gilberte (Mongeau) Gagner.  Robert attended Sacred Heart Academy in Newport and served as an altar boy at St. Benedict Catholic Church in West Charleston, VT as a young boy.  He graduated from North Country High School and later from Johnson State College where he earned a degree in art, teaching art to elementary school students for a time.  He travelled around the country for many years including Hersheytown, PA and Texas where he worked building a nuclear reactor but returned to Vermont for a time here and there throughout the years.  He returned to Vermont for good in 1978 when he met and fell in love with Liza Bejarano.  Together they operated the Gagne's family dairy farm in East Charleston and after a long engagement were married June 20, 1987.  In 2000 the couple moved to Ascutney and Robert worked at Pike Industries in West Lebanon for 15 years before retiring two and a half years ago.

Robert was a talented horticulturist and artist who particularly enjoyed painting signs and murals.

Robert was also an avid joke and storyteller inspiring laughter and Joie de Vivre to all he encountered.

He is survived by his wife, Liza C.B. Bejarano Gagne of Ascutney; children Bronwyn Hale and husband Richard of St. Johnsbury, VT, Brandon Gagne and wife Yda Vega-Gagne of Chestnut Hill, MA, Mariah Gagne and fiance Alex Kubesh of Mexico, ME and Marshall Gagne of Hartland, VT, grandchildren Connor, Leon, Sophia, George and Alexander; a sister Jocelyn Capron of Derby, VT; three nephews; Brooke Class, Antonio Garcia and son Gemini; as well as many neighbors and special friends including Don and Christine Clark,
