Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Robert J. Consentino, 89, died Friday afternoon, December 29, 2017 at the Hanover Terrace in Hanover, NH. He was born January 16, 1928 in New Haven, Connecticut the son of James and Mary (DuLuca) Consentino.

Robert grew up and attended schools in West Haven, CT. Following High School Robert went to work at United Elastic in West Haven. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. When he returned from the service he worked at various factories in Connecticut including Pratt & Whitney where he met his future wife, Martha Splettstoeszer. They were married a short time later on October 14, 1954.

In 1969 they moved to Essex Junction, VT where they opened and operated The Grinder Mill Restaurant until 1975 when they moved to Silver City, NM. They opened the Grinder Mill restaurant. They returned to Vermont in 1982 and opened Potlach Tavern in Fairlee, VT until they sold it in 1988. Both he and his wife went to work at Split Ball Bearing in Lebanon, NH where they worked until 1993. Robert and Martha then reopened the Potlach Tavern across the street from its original location and operated it until their retirement in 1995 when they moved to Florida. They returned to Vermont and made their home at Tall Timbers in White River Jct., VT in 1998.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #1541 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars both in White River Jct., VT as well as the American Legion in Lebanon, NH. Robert and Martha loved to travel. Mrs. Consentino died January 27, 2016.

Robert was predeceased by his wife and a sister, Delores Mazzara.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Tessier of White River Jct., VT, two sons, Brian Consentino of Essex Jct., VT, Kent Consentino of Cambridge, VT, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon, January 3, at 2PM at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon, NH. Burial with military honors will be held later in the spring time in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vermont.
