Robert L. Brown
White River Jct., VT – Robert L. Brown, 75, died Thursday January 9, 2014 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., VT.
He was born December 7, 1938 in Windsor, VT a son of George E. and Beatrice (LaBombard) Brown. Bob's family moved to White River Jct. when he was young where he attended Hartford High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1956, serving in Germany and later in at Fort Carson in Colorado where he was a member of the Mountain Rescue Team.
After his honorable discharge in 1963, Bob lived in Colorado for a time, where he met Diane Cote. They moved back to New England and were married and began a family, they had two sons, Daniel and George but were later divorced.
Bob was a talented machinist, beginning his career at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut before returning to the twin states where he spent the rest of his life. Locally Bob worked at several machine shops including Cerare Innovations, Thermal Dynamics and McGrath Machine. Most recently, Bob worked as custodian at the American Legion in White River Jct. where he received an award for his outstanding service.
He was a member of American Legion Post 26 and Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2571 both in White River Jct.
Bob was always willing to put his talents as a handyman to good use helping others. He was an accomplished Karate practitioner, including being a former instructor at Canaan College. He also enjoyed the outdoors, when he was younger he enjoyed mountain climbing and later continued hiking and taking long walks. He also enjoyed fishing and was very musical.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, a sister Cynthia Prior and a brother George E. Brown Jr.
He is survived by his longtime companion Lorraine Prior of White River Jct.; two sons Daniel Brown and wife Lissa of Rochester, NH and George Brown and wife Stefanie of North Hampton, NH; grandchildren Ava, Ella and Cy; brothers Ernest Brown of Lebanon and Bill Brown and wife Joanne of White River Jct.; sisters Joan Ducharme of White River Jct., Dorothy Herrick-Aloisio and husband Roy of Hartland, VT, Gloria Parisi and husband Frank of Boca Raton, FL, and Shirley Clements of Meriden, CT as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
