BROWNSVILLE, VT -- Robert J. Allen, 70, of Brownsville, Vermont, formerly of Weston, Massachusetts, beloved husband of Anne, and beloved father of Amy and Lizzie, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Brookside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Facility in White River Junction, with his family by his side.
Born on March 15, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of Herbert M. Allen and Elizabeth F. Allen, both of Belmont, Massachusetts. Rob grew up in Belmont and attended Belmont Schools, where he met his wife and many other lifelong friends. He graduated from Boston University in 1963 with a degree in communications, leading to a long and fulfilling career in advertising and public relations.
Rob served as an executive and friend at Cabot Advertising, Doremus and
Company, the Harvard Business Review, and Stickney Associates. He retired in 2011 as president of AAI Advertising in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. He will be remembered as a wonderful friend to his clients and a generous and beloved colleague.
He loved all the communities where he lived, and loved to serve them. A few of the organizations where he volunteered include the Ad Club of New England, the
deCordova Museum, the West Suburban YMCA, the Freedom Trail Foundation, the Massachusetts Mental Health Association and the Mt. Ascutney Property Owner's Association.
Rob enjoyed traveling, art, gardening, sailing, golf, classic cars, and cheering for the Red Sox and the Patriots. Generous of spirit, with an unforgettable sense of humor, he was truly happiest being with the many new friends that he made and those lifelong friends that he kept close.
Rob is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Anne Connors Allen; two daughters, Amy Allen Abbott of Portland, Maine and Lizzie Allen Lewis of Concord, Massachusetts; two sons-in-law, Steven W. Abbott of Portland, Maine and Benjamin H. Lewis of Concord, Massachusetts, and adored grandchildren Hannah, Buck, Ryan, Henry, Phoebe and Annabelle.
