IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Ray
Woodward, Ii
December 5, 1965 – August 11, 2023
Richard Ray Woodward, II, 57, died August 11, 2023, at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT.
He was born in Lebanon, NH on December 5, 1965, to Richard Woodward Sr. and Laurette (Vincent). Rich grew up in White River Jct., VT and graduated from Hartford High School in 1984. He married Karen (Sims) Woodward in 1988 and lived in Windsor, VT.
Rich worked at Timkin for many years before retiring in 1999 due to complications from diabetes. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and 4-wheeling. He was an excellent drummer. He enjoyed playing drums long after he lost his vision and legs. He survived the loss of his sight, both legs and a kidney transplant, but always moved forward. His son Hudson was his pride and joy, and he was so proud of him.
He loved to listen to music and podcasts and loved spending time with his wife and son. Despite all the health issues he experienced throughout his adult life, he always overcame them.
After losing his first wife, Karen, in 2013, he found love again on October 15th, 2015, through a dating site, and he and Penny were married on May 28, 2016. He would always say how lucky he was to have found true love twice in a lifetime. They moved to Georgia for a period of time before returning to Vermont where they resided in Swanton, VT.
Rich was a devoted husband, father, brother, cousin, and friend and he deeply loved those he knew well. He could laugh and make others at ease even when situations were very hard. He will be greatly missed by all who love him.
He is survived by his wife, Penny (Martel) Woodward, a son, Hudson Woodward and his fiancé, Katie Trombley; two stepsons, Brian & Chris Ledoux; grandson, Jack Thomas Ledoux; his sister, Violet Walsh, and her husband Gregg, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Jeannie and Theresa, an infant brother as well as his first wife, Karen (Sims).
A funeral service will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., Saturday August 19th at 11AM with burial following in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, VT.
Condolences may be made to Richard's family in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com
