Richard W. Rielly, Sr., 83, passed away on May 2 ^nd , 2022. He grew up in Newport, Vermont and worked at Elmwood Dairy after graduating high school. He enlisted in the VT Army National Guard from 1956-1963 in the 172 ^nd Infantry, Company D, 43 Division and was assigned to 81 Mortar. He was an expert gun and won awards for marksmanship.

He worked at many jobs, but his vocation was in law enforcement. He was a correctional officer at the Windsor State Prison, police officer in Bellows Falls, VT, constable in Rockingham, VT, police officer in the Windsor County Sheriff's Dept., and a police officer for 38 years in Hartford, VT, retiring in 2007.

He married Delia Glodgett of Brownington, VT on June 4, 1960, who was the love of his life and wife of 61 years. They had four children: Carolyn, Cindy, Cheryl, and Richard, Jr. He loved camping and driving his antique cars.

In addition to Delia and their children, he is survived by grandchildren, Sean and Glenn Rielly, Keith and Kelly Williams, Stacey and Michael Santaw, and Tyler Tremblay; great-grandchildren Bella and Logan Santaw, and Bennett and Mya Williams.

He was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Mabel Rielly, and his brother, Gordon, who also worked as a correctional officer in Windsor and as a police officer in Bellows Falls and Hartford.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 12 ^th from 5-7PM at Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Friday, May 13 ^th in the Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder, VT.
