Obituary

Richard Paul Bettigole, 77, of Quechee, VT, and St. Petersburg, FL, passed away unexpectedly June 25, 2022, in Winchester, UK. Born in White Plains, NY, July 28, 1944, to the late Betty and Norton Bettigole, "Dick" spent his childhood in Hartsdale, NY, and graduated from White Plains High School in 1966. While at Penn State University, he was a member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. After graduating from Penn State with a major in accounting, Dick attended Duquesne University Law School. While in Pittsburg, PA, in 1968, he married Susan Rosenzweig; that marriage ended in divorce. Dick went on to serve in the United States Army for two years, after being drafted while studying law at Duquesne. Professionally, Dick was a corporate tax accountant for Gulf & Western Corporation, and then at Heublein, specializing in international taxes. For the remainder of his career, he operated his own tax accounting firm, Bettigole Associates, in Ridgefield, CT, and then in Hartford, VT.

After remarrying Arlene Salerni Gingras in 1987, Dick and his blended family lived on Barrack Hill Road in Ridgefield, CT. Dick was a gentleman farmer at heart, and in his leisure, he grew a bounty of vegetables and made maple syrup on his farm in Hartford, VT. He and his wife, Arlene, hosted many social gatherings at Orchard Hill Farm on Jericho St., including a western ho-down for his 50th birthday. While being steward of the historic Hazen homestead, Dick served for a period of time as treasurer for two non-profit organizations, the Norwich Congregational Church, and the former Outreach House in Hanover, NH. More recently, Dick was a resident of St. Petersburg, FL, and of Quechee Lakes Landowners Association (QLLA, VT), where he enjoyed gardening, and simply living amidst natural beauty.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Arlene, his loyal brother, David Bettigole, of Winsted, CT, his devoted son, Neil, and his wife, Beth, of Rhinebeck, NY, his devoted step-daughter, Christine, and her husband, Matt, of St. Petersburg, FL; and his loving grandsons, Jack Bettigole and Hayden Bettigole of Rhinebeck, NY, and Graham Stineman of St. Petersburg, FL. Not to mention many faithful cousins, friends, and clients. A Celebration of Dick's life was held in July of 2022 at the QLLA event facility. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choosing.

Condolences may be expressed to Dick's family in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
