White River Jct., VT – Richard O. LaFlam, 81, died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his home in White River Jct.
He was born January 29, 1937 in Morrisville, VT a son of Donald O. and Muriel (Conant) LaFlam and the family moved to Wilder, VT when Dick was young. He later graduated from Hartford High School where he met the love of his life Sheila Holbrook. They were married April 20, 1956. Dick served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. The LaFlam's made their home in White River Jct. and North Hartland before settling back in White River Jct. in 1974 where they lived the rest of their lives.
Dick worked as a milkman for Honey Gardens in Lebanon before starting his career at St. Johnsbury Trucking where he worked until they closed. Before retiring he drove for Barry Betters Paving and Romano Trucking.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting coins, and for many years taking trips on his Harley with wife Sheila and friends. As a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge, Dick rarely missed an afternoon stop at the club to chat with friends. After retiring, he took up golf and enjoyed playing until his health no longer allowed him to play.
Dick was predeceased by his parents and wife, Sheila, in 2011. He leaves a son Rick LaFlam and his wife Lisa of Wilder; two daughters Kelly Guerin and her husband Mike of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Debbie LaFlam of Whittier, NC; grandchildren Bailey and Garrett LaFlam, Tasha Rice and John Young, a brother Bobby LaFlam of Daytona, FL, as well as several great-grandchildren and a niece.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, October 18 th from 11AM until 1PM. A graveside service will follow in the Hartford Cemetery in White River Jct. at 1:30PM and reception from 2-4PM at the Hotel Coolidge Vermont Room.
