Obituary

Windsor, VT – Richard G. Dow, 70, died peacefully Tuesday evening, September 22, 2020 at his home in Windsor, VT.  He was born September 12, 1950 in Windsor, VT the son of William Earl and Charlotte (Lowery) Dow.

Richard lived his whole life in Windsor, where he attended elementary school and graduated from Windsor High School in 1968.  He married Norean Willard on April 4, 1970.  They made their home in Windsor and had their only child, daughter Shannon.  Richard worked at Cone Blanchard Machine Company for many years later he went to work at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where he worked for over twenty years, retiring in 2015.

Richard was also a professional musician and for a good chunk of his life was active with one band or another as a bass player.  One of his first high school bands was named the "Crustaceans", which he enjoyed telling stories of to his grandchildren. He later played,throughout the years with several other area bands.  His last performance was just a few years ago when he got the opportunity to play guitar with his grandson who was on the drums and his daughter as the lead singer. They were called the "3 D's".

Richard also spent a few seasons racing hillclimbs in a 1989 turbo minivan, quickly becoming the talk of the mountain on a few occasions.

Richard took great pride in being active with his family, having campouts, fishing trips, music and bass lessons with his grandchildren. These last few years he was able to spend time with his sister who lives beside him.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Harford and Charlotte Taft.  He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Dow and her husband, Bob Jobson Jr. of Lebanon, NH, grandson Hayden Dow and granddaughter, Gwynavier Dow Jobson both of Lebanon, NH, a brother, William "Butch" Dow of Connecticut, his sister Joyce Dow of Windsor, his former wife and lifelong friend Norean Shepherd of Canada, as well as several nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues.

Calling hours will be held, Wednesday evening, September 30, from 5-7PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT.  Following cremation a life celebration will be held at a later date.
