ASCUTNEY, VT
Richard N. "Dick" Jarvis, 82, a longtime resident of Ascutney, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, January 22, at his home in Ascutney.
He was born December 5, 1929 in Claremont, NH the son of Philip and Eva (Greenwood) Jarvis. He received his schooling in Ascutney and attended Steven's High School in Claremont. As a young man he attended St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. He was a veteran of the US Army, where he served in the Infantry during peacetime. He married Mildred (Higgins) Dingman in Claremont on December 28, 1957. They moved to Ascutney in 1963. Mr. Jarvis was employed as a machinist at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor for forty five years until his retirement in 1992. Dick was an outdoor enthusiast who was fond of spending time on his property and liked repairing machinery. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and by one brother, Raymond Jarvis.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Jarvis of Ascutney, three daughters, Cheryl McDerment and her husband, Herman of Ascutney, Linda Wright and her husband, Jeff of Wolcott, VT and Lori Crane of Orlando, FL, two granddaughters, Olivia Crane and Tina Davidson, one great grandson, Tyler Davidson, one stepdaughter, Jean Bridgmon of Plant City, FL, two step grandsons, two brothers, Victor P. Jarvis and his wife, Virginia of Ascutney, and Gordon P. Jarvis of Evervale, CA, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Wednesday evening, January 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services and committal services will be held at the convenience of his family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad at PO Box 91, Ascutney, VT 05030.
