Wilder, VT- Reverend Margaret L. Stoddard, 95, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at home.
Margaret was born July 12, 1922 in Elizabeth, NJ the daughter of Clarence Allen and Margaret (Gardes) Stoddard. She attended Schools in New Jersey and graduated from Trenton State College with a degree in Music Education. Margaret went on to graduate from Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Massachusetts with a Masters Degree in Religious Education. She served the Massachusetts Council of Churches, teaching weekday classes and also as head of education in churches in both Darien, CT and Arlington, MA. Margaret taught hand bells and sat on the board of Geneva Point Elder Hostels. Following her ordination on June 18, 1975 she was the Associate Pastor of the First Congregational church of Holden, MA. Margaret was one of the founding members of the Living Room Dialog an interfaith discussion group in Holden, MA. During this time she sang with the Worcester Chorus and worked at the City Missionary Society in Boston . Margaret served on the National UCC Camping Association. In 1977 she was called to be the Pastor of the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ in Hartford, VT where she has been an instrumental part of the church even after her retirement, in 2014 she was bestowed with the honor of Pastor Emeritus for the Greater Hartford UCC. Margaret enjoyed spending time with the church youth, she took several youth groups to Europe. After retirement she was an active member serving on the Upper Valley Council on Aging, State Boards and several committees, both the National and Vermont Conference of the United Church of Christ
Margaret is predeceased by a sister Marian Black.
She is survived by a niece and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held 2pm Thursday, July 12,2018 at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ.
