IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond M.
"Tito" Millan
April 26, 1932 – April 10, 2023
Grantham, NH- Raymond M. "Tito" Millan, 90, died Monday, April 10, 2023, sixteen days shy of his 91 st birthday.
He was born April 26, 1932, in Omaha, NE, the second son of Daniel and Mary (Srdonov) Mladovich, both of whom were first generation immigrants from Serbia. Raymond, known as "Tito" for most of his adult life, was the first person in his family to attend college. At age 16, he entered The University of Nebraska on a baseball scholarship. Baseball would open many doors for Tito in the years ahead. After graduation, he served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where his service included playing exhibition baseball to entertain troops awaiting deployment. Following his time in the Army, Tito played for the Brooklyn Dodgers AAA team before earning his J.D. from the University of Nebraska Law School. Tito eventually moved east for a job opportunity, met, fell in love with, and married Bernelle "Bunny" Curtis. They made a loving and lively home, raising their three children in Simsbury, CT and briefly in Syracuse, NY; they were married for almost fifty-five years before Bunny died. Tito loved helping people and engaged everyone he met with compassion, humor, and good listening skills ( ironic for one with acute hearing loss later in life), especially the employees he mentored throughout his over thirty-five years tenure with Connecticut Mutual Life. Throughout his career and at home, he was known for his passion for goal setting and attainment and his commitment to helping his children, his associates, and the company achieve what they set out to do.
Tito remained active throughout his life and enjoyed skiing, golfing, sailing, and traveling both stateside and abroad. He was a competitor in all things from bocce to Yahtzee. As a result, his children learned early on about negotiating raises in their weekly allowances and how to move quickly on the paddle ball court to protect themselves from enthusiastic volleys in close quarters. His most treasured times over the years were spent with his family and friends, including his OFOS (Old Farts on Skis) band of brothers with whom he shared many laughs, hijinks, and a great bit of mischief. Tito has lived in Grantham, NH with his loving partner, Judith Danzoll, for the past 10 years.
Tito is predeceased by his wife, Bunny, daughter, Melissa Millan, his parents, Daniel and Mary, stepmother, Rose, and brother, Melvin Mladovich. He is survived by his sons, Mark Millan and Matthew Millan (Liz Oettinger). He relished being "Thetha" for grandchildren, Tyler, Isabelle and Caleb Millan, and Zachary and Victoria Hodkin.
Services will be held at a later date in Simsbury, CT. Condolences to Tito's family may be made in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Melissa Millan '82 Endowed Scholarship, c/o Middlebury College.
