IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond
Obar
August 19, 1949 – January 19, 2019
Ray Obar, a loving husband, father and grandfather, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on January 19, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Born August 19, 1949 in Limestone, Maine to Hope and Joseph Obar, he received his Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Saint Joseph's College in Maine. Ray held various nursing jobs throughout the years, retiring after serving for 29 years in Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's Emergency and Orthopedics departments. He was a member of the original founding DHART Helicopter team that began providing critical care transportation more than 20 years ago.
Ray had a passion for fly fishing and enjoyed trips to many rivers in both the United States and Canada. He was a very talented maker & designer of fly ties and volunteered his time teaching others and giving classes for the Wounded Warriors Project.
He was always known and loved for his compassion, kind spirit, and quick wit. His life was dedicated to service to his country, his patients, and his family whom he treasured. He loved being involved in his kids' and grandkids' lives. He never missed a game whether coaching or cheering from the stands. His three grandkids were the light of his life and he always had time to hear their stories and play a game.
He will be duly missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Carla. His absence will be keenly felt by his sons and their wives: Joshua and Heather and Jacob and Lindsay. He will be missed in a special way by his grandkids: Isaac, Ethan and Moriah. Ray is survived by his sister Cecila Hoffman and her husband, James, from Maryland.
On behalf of Ray, his family would like to thank the staff at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the White River Junction VA Hospital for the 12 years of treatment he received. They would also like to thank the staff of Bayada Hospice and the Jack Byrne Palliative Care & Hospice Center for the amazing care he and his family experienced during his final days.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 23 from 5-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Thursday at St. Anthony's Church in White River Junction. Interment will be in the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be expressed to Ray's family in an online guestbook at www.Knightfuneralhomes.com
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Dr, Lebanon NH, 03766 or the Upper Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter, PO Box 94, Pomfret, VT 05067.
