Windsor, VT – Raymond W. Dillingham, 88, died peacefully early Saturday morning, September 10, 2022 at his home in Windsor, VT. Ray was born November 17, 1933 in Greensboro, VT the son of Fay and Hazel (Bartlett) Dillingham.
He left school at an early age to work on the family farm and help make ends meet. In April of 1954, Ray was drafted by the US Army to serve during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of CPL IM50. He spent his last twelve months of duty in the DMZ 2. Upon returning to Vermont, he began working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Windsor, VT. He married Elaine Kittredge on October 29, 1960 in Windsor, where they made their home. For many years, he worked for American Plate Glass Company out of Claremont, NH as their lead installer of store front windows. When Ray was in his sixties, he studied and received his GED and in doing so received a special commission from the State of Vermont.
He was an honorary life member of the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665, a longtime member of the American Legion Post #25 in Windsor, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2572 in White River Jct., VT.
When he was a younger man, he enjoyed working on and maintaining their house and property, square dancing throughout New England with his wife and local friends, playing with his three children and later his grandchildren, playing pool and socializing. His favorite hobby was hunting, that is, riding around with his best friend, Dick Dunn, looking for deer. Their escapades earned them the nick names, Coffee and Donuts. He also enjoyed vacationing with his dear friends, Dick and Gloria Furman.
Ray was predeceased by his wife, Elaine, who died May 15, 2012, mother, Hazel Elnora Bartlett, who died in 1985, father, Fay Kezer Dillingham who died in 1956 and his step Father, Ed Suprenant who died in 1994.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Dillingham of Windsor, VT and Ronald Dillingham and his wife, Christina of Hartland, VT, his daughter, Debora S. Henderson and her husband, Tom of White River Jct., VT, grandchildren, Casey Dillingham, Bill Gokey of Weathersfield, VT and Gage Dillingham, of Hartland, VT, two great grandchildren, Maxon and Myles Gokey. As well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 11:30AM in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, VT. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Windsor American Legion.
