Obituary

SPRINGFIELD, VT
Priscilla G. (Brown) Whitcomb, 86, a former longtime resident of Springfield, passed away Saturday morning, October 4 at the Cedar Hill Healthcare Center in Windsor.
She was born October 16, 1927 in Springfield the daughter of John and Lillian (McDonnell) Gurney. She received her schooling in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1945. She married Kenneth Brown in 1952. Priscilla was employed at Fellows Gear Shaper and later at Ralph Baker Investments, both in Springfield. She and her husband owned and operated Hoszkiewicz and Sons Market on Park Street in Springfield for four years, until Mr. Brown passed away in 1975. She moved to Sunapee in 1980 where she owned and operated Sunapee Secretarial Services. She returned to North Springfield in 1992 and married Harland E. Whitcomb in 1993.
She was fond of genealogy and enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod and England. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Mr. Whitcomb passed away in April of 2014.
She was also predeceased by her parents, one brother, David Gurney, and by one grandson and one great granddaughter.
Survivors include one son, Gary K. Brown and his companion, Judy Politza, of Perkinsville, VT, one daughter, Wendy S. Marden of Waterville, ME, six sisters, Barbara Newport of Windsor, Joy Harvey and her husband, Dick of Saranac Lake, NY, Carolyn Staubach and her husband, Stan of Tulsa, OK, Nancy Moore and her husband, Bill of Springfield, Laura Messier and her husband, Norman of Lyndonville, VT, and Harriet Abel of South Hampton, MA, three brothers, Donald Gurney and his wife, Arlene of Springfield, VT, Gordon "Sam" Gurney and his wife Jane of Weathersfield, VT and John Gurney of Douglas, AZ, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18 at 1:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. William Sheldon officiating. Committal services will follow in the Plain Cemetery in Perkinsville. A reception for family and friends will follow at the home of Gary Brown in Perkinsville.
