White River Jct., VT - Phyllis Carol (Becker) MacDonald passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side after a hard fought battle with cancer on Monday, September 11, 2017.
Phyllis was born in Brevard, North Carolina on November 6, 1960 to Theodore and Doris Becker. Phyllis grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey where she attended and graduated from Colombia High school in 1978. She was a member of her high school gymnastics team, and continued the sport as an uneven bar specialist at West Chester University in Pennsylvania where she majored in Physical Education and met her husband William. William and Phyllis married on July 12, 1980 in Maplewood, NJ. They resided in Colorado, Cape Cod and Maplewood before settling down in Wilder, Vermont in 1989.
Phyllis was a lifelong athlete, ultimately becoming an avid runner. She enjoyed distance races of varied lengths including half-marathons in Philadelphia, West Chester and Boston as well as Vermont and New Hampshire. Her artistic abilities were also evident as she excelled at calligraphy; using this talent for many friends and family's weddings. Her passion for gymnastics and children came together in her job of over twenty-five years at Northern Lights Gymnastics where she was the preschool gymnastics director. She was a phenomenal teacher who strived to create new techniques for individual learning styles, always making sure that safety and fun were equally achieved. She gave generously of herself, and is beloved by all the parents and children whom she taught.
Her greatest passion was her family. William and Phyllis raised three children; Duncan, Ainsley and Casey. Phyllis could always be found supporting and cheering at various sporting occasions for her children as well as being involved in many parenting groups through the years. She was the ultimate mother, always putting her children first and maintained the perfect balance of parent and friend as her children matured.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of over thirty-seven years, William. Her three children, her parents, as well as brother, Michael Becker and sisters, Ellen Adams, Mary Becker-Pasha, Paula Becker and Joanna Becker-Lippincott. She was also loved by numerous sister and
Brother-in-laws as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Denis Parish in Hanover, NH followed by a private burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in Phyllis' name be made to the following organizations that she supported; High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program, The Spark! Community Center, The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), as well as Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock.
