Obituary

WINDSOR, VT

Philip G. Turgeon, 87, a resident of West Lebanon and a former longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday evening, June 10 at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor surrounded by family.

He was born May 1, 1932 in Cornish, NH the son of John B. and Dorothy (Cullum) Turgeon. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1950. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict for eight years. Following his honorable discharge he served in the Vermont National Guard for seventeen years. He married Ruth Whipple on March 30, 1956 in Woodstock, VT. He was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and later at the former Vermont State Prison in Windsor. He most recently was employed by the Windsor School District as Maintenance Supervisor for thirty five years at the Windsor Junior Senior High School and the State Street Elementary School where he retired in 1996. He was a master electrician and licensed plumber.

He was past commander and a life member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25, a member of the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665, and a member of the John P. Larkin Country Club.

Phil was a longtime and active member of the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Fontaine Council, a member of the church choir, and of the "Francis Community Players", and will be remembered for his roles of Jacob Marley, Dopey and Willie Nelson as well as many others in several stage productions.

He enjoyed golfing, camping, acting, socializing, teaching, taking care of his siblings and helping his children with their homes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.

He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Robert and Richard Turgeon, and one great great granddaughter, Maycee.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty three years, Ruth Turgeon of West Lebanon, three daughters, Jean Avery and her husband, David of Grantham, NH, Kathleen Walker and her partner, Jon Holbrook of Thetford Center, and Angela Turgeon-Ladeau and her husband, Brett of Hartland, one son, John Turgeon of Manchester, NH, one sister, Claire Kilfeather of Hartland, eight grandchildren, Jacquie, Jessica, Michael, Ryan, J.P., Jacob, Sydney and Whitney, fifteen great grandchildren, Rachael, Jennah, Dakohta, Madison, Emma, Dylan, Austin, J.T., Adelyn, Jace, Keegan, Chloe, Kyra, Harper and Zade, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday evening, June 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 18 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. Rev. Charles Danielson, Pastor will be the Celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Private committal services with military honors will be held at a later date in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.
