Obituary; Peter J. Lynch
Peter J. Lynch died Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at home with his family at his bedside, just as he wanted.
Born August 4, 1928 in New York City of Irish immigrants, he and his family moved back to Ireland to escape the economic hardships of the Great Depression. After a number of years living in Cavan, Ireland, the family once again moved to Ormskirk, England. Due to war and further economic necessities, he was forced to go to work at the age of 14, never having any formal education past the eighth grade. In 1949, he and his father came back to New York, both working to earn enough money to bring the remainder of the family to the States.
Shortly after, he met and married Mary Rose Maguire, the love of life. She died in 1990, after nearly 40 years of marriage, a loss from which he never fully emotionally recovered.
In 1964, the family moved to Fairlawn, NJ, where he lived until moving to Cornish, NH in 2007.
A fiercely loyal and devoted family man, he worked tirelessly at the New York Telephone company, retiring at age 55, in a management role, an accomplishment, given his abbreviated education, he took great pride.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling in his motor home, and was fond of feeding and watching birds.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Scenna, and Sally D'Addario both of Whitestone NY, a brother, Thomas Lynch of North Babylon, NY, two sons, Peter Lynch of Cornish, NH, and Michael Lynch of Moses Lake, WA, and three grandchildren, Thomas Lynch of Ephreda, WA, Jennifer Mahoney of Everett, WA, and Peter Lynch of Cornish, NH.
The Lynch Family would like recognize and thank Tina Downing of Cornish, the staff of Connecticut Valley Hospice, and Dr. John Batsis and his staff at DHMC, for providing the extraordinary care that allowed him to remain and die at home according to his wishes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 21, at 1PM in the chapel at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Westchester, NY. Committal services will follow at the cemetery.
