On a picture perfect Vermont Fall afternoon, Pegge Strickler passed away at her home on New Boston Road in Norwich surrounded by her husband, children and a house full of books. Her last months were filled with visits from family, friends, home cooked Thai food, ice cream, chocolate and many, many laughs. Pegge and her husband of seventy years, Jim Strickler, raised five children, traveled the world extensively and cherished their old farmhouse, gardens and fields.
Born 1931 in Pittsburgh PA, where she grew up, Pegge attended the University of Pittsburgh on a full scholarship graduating summa cum laude. She and Jim then married and lived in New York City and its suburbs before moving to Hanover in 1967. After their children were all in school, Pegge joined the Howe Library as the Children's Librarian and for two decades imparted her lifelong love of books to the community. Upon retiring, she was devoted to being "Omi" for five grandchildren and two great-grandsons, all of whom treasured their time with her.
To borrow from Lu and Peter Martin, a "Pegge Party" will be held in the future (as will a more complete tribute). In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to your favorite library.
