CLAREMONT, NH
Pauline Elizabeth Russell, 73, of Claremont, NH passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1st at Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, NH after a long illness. Pauline was born to Seth W. and Fanny E. (Woods) Hammond in Keene NH on May 6, 1943.
On April 7, 1961 she married Laurence W. Russell in Acworth, NH, and then settled in Newport NH where they resided for many years while raising their four children.
Pauline was a stay at home mom, until her youngest child started school. She then entered the workforce enjoying many varied work opportunities. Her love of children and dedication to serving others led her to positions, such as a nursing assistant at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport NH, and also as a child care provider at Newport Head Start and other day care centers in the area. In later years she resided in Claremont NH and worked at various retail establishments. In 2010 after 10 years of service she left her position at Walmart in Claremont, NH due to her declining health.
She enjoyed opportunities to meet new people and to brighten their day. Strangers were just friends she had yet to meet. She was extremely proud of retuning to school and receiving her GED as an adult and attending college workshops on writing. She was an avid reader and loved to write and journal, she dreamed of one day publishing her writings.
She is predeceased by both her parents, Seth W. Hammond and Fanny E. Wyman. She is also predeceased by her son, Lawrence "Chip" Russell.
Pauline is survived by her husband Laurence "Larry" Russell of 55 years. Her children, daughters, Jean Ryea, and husband Danny of Unity, NH. Judy Wood and husband Michael of Charlestown, NH and a son Teddy Russell and wife Simone of Claremont, NH, her brothers, William Hammond and wife Carol of Vernon, VT, Raymond Hammond and wife Gloria of Merrimack, NH, Harry "Butch" Hammond of Acworth, NH, Charlie Woods of Swanzey, NH and a sister Marie (Wyman) Brown and husband Robert of Lempster, NH, her grandchildren, Matthew Russell, Krystle Davis, David Davis, Ashley (Ryea) Gove-Dupont, Pedro Varnier, Jonathan Russell, Kendra Russell, Sierra Brown, Ellita-May Russell and Goldie, Andreeanna and Tia Downing, two great grandchildren, Jaxon Malone and Kaiden Fluette.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, December 10th, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Grace River Church, 56 Main Street Claremont, NH, with Pastor Scott Kearns officiating. At this time guests will be invited to share stories and memories. A private family burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of Sullivan County Nursing home for the loving care they provided for their loved one during her final years.
