Paul N. Wood

Quechee, VT – Paul N. Wood, 87, died Wednesday April 22, 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born April 9, 1928 in Hartland, VT a son of Ralph and Regis (Daley) Wood. After Paul graduated from Hartford High School in 1946 he drove taxi for a time and then enlisted in the US Air Force, serving in North Africa. He returned from the service and met Joyce LaRock in Quechee; they were married November 28, 1953. They lived in Connecticut for a short time while Paul worked at Pratt & Whitney before moving back to Vermont, settling in Quechee where they have lived since. Paul worked as a letter carrier for the US Post Office for over 30 years, retiring in 1983.

Paul and Joyce raised horses together for many years. They raised Morgan's for a time and later Trotters that they raced throughout New England and New York. He was especially proud of Dutch Lady Mac, who he trained himself and had a very successful racing career.

Paul also enjoyed golf, having learned to play while serving in the air force in Tripoli and took up again after his retirement. Even into his eighties, Paul was better than many players half his age.

He was predeceased by his wife in January of this year; a son Richard Wood; four brothers, John Wood, Raymond Wood, Jerome Wood, Richard Wood and Mark Wood and a sister Rita Kraljevich.

He is survived by four daughters Paula Bugbee and her husband Nelson of Hartland, VT, Elizabeth Meade and her husband Brad of West Lebanon, NH, Susan Wood and Catherine Herlihy both of Quechee; a son Ralph Wood of White River Jct.; three grandchildren Amanda Wood, Paul Robert Wood and Jennifer Henderson; three great-grandchildren Colton Wood Addison Henderson and Brody Meade; brothers Peter Wood of Plainville, CT and Thomas Wood of Stratham, NH and a sister Regina Gaudreau of Ludlow, MA as well as many nieces and nephews.
