Paul A Jarvis

Paul A. Jarvis, 78, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home.

He was born on December 9, 1947, in Hanover, NH, a son of Norbert and Blanche (Coutermarsh) Jarvis. Paul spent his early years in West Lebanon before the family moved to Wilder when he was a teenager. Following his graduation from Hartford High School class of 1966 he served as a Purser aboard the USS New in the US Navy. After four years of naval service he received his honorable discharge and returned home to the Upper Valley where he began working at the National Bank of Lebanon. He was married to Clara Rule at St. Anthony Church in White River Jct. on September 5, 1970, and they have lived in White River Jct. since. Paul worked for a time at Valley Tire and the Holiday Inn before going to work at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover as a supervisor and later at Dartmouth College where he worked until he had to medically retire due to a cancer diagnosis, which he was able to overcome.

Paul was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Church where he was a member of the Michaud Council of the Knights of Columbus since 1980. He was a third and fourth degree Knight who held the title of District Deputy for five years. Paul also held the title of State Warden and State Treasurer until having to retire due to health concerns.

Paul enjoyed camping with family and friends around New England including frequent visits to York Beach, ME. He especially enjoyed spending time around the campfire making ‘smores and sharing memories. He also had fond memories spending time outdoors hunting or fishing and judged his success by the friendship he shared with his companions, not by what he caught or bagged.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clara Jarvis of White River Jct.; children, Tammie Jarvis (Tim) of White River Jct. and Patrick Jarvis (Tina) of Perkinsville, VT; two grandchildren Cameron and Tiffani and four great-grandchildren, Shaylee, Aiden, Leah and James as well as a brother, Norbert Jarvis Jr. of Weathersfield, VT; sisters, Joan Smith (Lincoln) of White River Jct. and Carol Bostwick (Earle) of Enfield, NH and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Thursday, July 30th from 5-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 31st at 10AM at St. Anthony Church followed by burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery both in White River Jct.
