Obituary

Windsor, VT – Paul H. Dickinson, 69, died Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born April 15, 1952, in Windsor, VT, the son of Frank J. and Vera M. (Potwin) Dickinson. Paul lived in Woodstock, VT as a young child and later his family moved to East Bridgewater, MA where he attended elementary school. His very large family's deep roots were in Vermont which brought them to North Pomfret. Paul had an opportunity to express his talent for the stage when he became involved in the performing arts. In 1968 and 1969 under the direction of Robert Yoh, he performed in several high school musicals including his favorites, Brigadoon, Oklahoma, and South Pacific. The role of Stewpot in South Pacific is one that friends and family still remember and talk about to this day. He really became a star at the local variety show with his hilarious version of Rindercella. During high school he worked part time at The Woodstock Inn where he developed a interest for the culinary arts and horticulture. Those interests grew into a passion that continued throughout his life. He graduated from Woodstock Union High School in 1971.

Paul was a gifted storyteller, conversationalist, and a master adventurer, traits that drew people to him. Even strangers enjoyed spending time listening to his stories. He had a unique outlook on life, not really caring about money and personal possessions but instead found great admiration for the lessons and experiences found in nature and the great outdoors. These characteristics led Paul to live off the grid in the wilderness of Barnard Chateauguay. Paul loved to ski and worked at Killington, Suicide Six, and Okemo. Paul was extremely active with Windsor County Partners where he mentored and changed the lives of many young people. Many of the clients he assisted grew to be lifelong friends.

Paul's love for the outdoors meant camping was a regular pastime of his, this included countless canoe trips on the Peace River in central Florida. He often served as the "guide" for many of his northern friends and the youth organizations of Arcadia, FL.

In the past few years as Paul's health declined, he leaned on his special relationship with family and close friends. This past summer was especially wonderful as he and his sister, Lenny and brother-in-law, Ron spent countless hours together reminiscing and making memories.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Richard A. Dickinson.

Paul is survived by his sister Lenoura Vezina and her husband Ronald of Windsor, VT; nieces, Michele Shepherd and her husband Chris of Warner, NH, Malisa Williams and her husband Shawn of Brownsville, VT, and Rene Falconer and her husband Geoffrey of Orleans, VT; great nieces and nephews, Caitlyn Shepherd of Millsboro, DE, Nathaniel Williams of Colchester, VT, Ashley Williams of Brownsville, VT, Simon Shepherd of Claremont, NH, and Geoffrey Falconer of Orrington, ME; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  A special thank you to his very close friend Skip Nalette and family of Wilder, VT.
