Obituary

Paul Robert Callens, 66 years, eleven months, three days old (he always liked numbers) died unexpectedly on November 6th, due to complications from surgery. Paul, aka Pablo, PC, PCal, Paulito was born in December 3, 1947 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Mary Aileen (Duncan) and Albert Robert Callens.

Paul moved to the US as a toddler and spent his childhood in New Jersey. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnical Institute in 1969 In 1971, he met the love of his life, Judy Gobeille, whom he married in 1973. In 1974 they moved to Vermont.

Paul was a lifelong teacher starting his career at the Don Bosco Technical High School in East Paterson, New Jersey. He also taught at the Albert Bridge School, Lebanon High School, Bethel High School, and Chelsea School. The most satisfying part of his career was the 22 years spent teaching in Chelsea, where he felt a special bond with his students and their families.

Paul will be remembered with affection by the many students who passed through his classroom. Paul not only gave his students the key to understanding mathematics but also connected with them through his often politically incorrect humor and genuine regard.

Paul loved his family; best friend, travel companion, fellow kayaker, wife, Judy; his cherished daughter, Sarah Callens, and his beloved granddaughter, Esme. Paul was fiercely proud of his son Trevor and adored his wife, Alana, and his newest love, grandson, Levi Callens. Paul is also survived by his mother, Mary Aileen Callens, brother Peter Callens, and his partner Marybeth, brother Mark Calllens and his partner Zsol Menesit, brother in law Fred Gobeille and wife Jennifer, brother in law Glenn Gobeille and partner Jay Morgan, and several nieces and nephews.

Paul's friends and family were gifted by his sense if humor and his ability to laugh no matter the situation. He will be missed.
